Lee makes histoiy
A RAPID Ribble Valley biker made Aintree history at the weekend. =
= ,- - - • Lee Cutts-Bland. etched-his name into the histoiy
books at the circuit while competing in the Aintree Superbike Championship. The solitary Kawasaki ZXIOR rider set a time of 54.7 seconds at an average speed of 100.9 mph - the fastest ever motorcycle lap of the Aintree circuit. Not only that but Lee went on to win the race in
an exhilarating finale which saw him beat Greg Lewis by three tenths of a record. The triple whammy was confirmed with the news that victory had moved him level on points at the top of the series alongside rival Lewis with just one race remainin|. Lee reminisced: “My racing is self-funded and
as such, I have just concentrated on the Aintree Motorcycle Club championship this year, competing in the Superbikes class. In the fourth round of the championship on Saturday I was the only rider on a Kawasaki among a strong field of 36 riders. “There v/as a seven lap battle at the front between
three riders; myself, Greg Lewis and John Ingram. I was lying third for most of the race when we came upon back-markers and I lost some considerable time. But after pushing hard I managed to bridge the gap between us just as John Ingram suffered engine failure. “'It was then myself in second place and Greg
Lewis leading across the line at the last lap flag. 1 managed to get good drive exiting the penultimate corner called Beechers and this gave me good speed down the back straight, enough to pass Greg on the brakes into the last comer and beat him to the flag by just three tenths of a second. The win Has put me eoual first with Greg Lewis in the Aintree Superbike Cliampionship with just one round to go.” Lee will challenge for the championship on Saturday, September 18th. .
