Shakeys on song for Help the Heroes
iSABDEN-BASED band ,'Shakeys Brother put in a
great effort to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
: The popular five-piece ; toured the length of the land as they played their unofficial
• World Gup anthem, England ‘til I Die, at every single league ground in the country this summer.
;
... And, at a recent gig at the Kings Arms in Clitheroe, they presented a cheque to the
;North West Help For Heroes branch for £2,650. Their tour spanned 12 days and saw them travel more than
3,200 miles before finishing up at Wembley.
f . Despite tiredness and being
turned away from Coventry City and Man United, front man Mark Capstick said there were definitely more highs than lows throughout the tour. “We had been recently let
down by the organisers of an American fund-raising event in support of endangered species, so we decided to do something ourselves and raise some mon ey for a charity which is dose to most people’s hearts. “ We decided we could do
this tied in with the World Cup and came up with an idea to write and record our own World Cup anthem and then take this further by completing a charity tour playing the song at every English league ground
in as short a time as physically; possible. . :.
“The camaraderie and team
spirit was a real high. At times morale was faltering, but we picked each other up and kept going with a beer and a barbe cue at the end of every day. . “Support from family and
friends at home was also a massive help in getting it off the ground and my dad’s driv ing skills, navigation and repair work were invaluable. “Support received from
clubs such as Burnley, Accring ton Stanley, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Liv erpool was also uplifting as was being filmed by ITV London at ■White Hart Lane and appear
ing on the Six O’clock News. ■ At most grounds the band
collected memorabilia which was auctioned off at the end of the tour. , “The money is still coming in with the total currently stand ing at £2,795.59,” added Mark.
• “Massive thanks goes to our friends and family who helped organise the tour, and to local businesses for helping provide money to get us on the road.” Anybody still wanting to donate can do so at www.
bemycharity.com/worldcup- tour. For more information on
the band, visit

beat forester, said: “This project is being led by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, which primarily consists of local moun
tain bikers. They were seeking to create a trail with features that could help them
. develop techniques that the existing trails ' within the forest are not able to do.
“Following previous Forestry Commis-
