A Telemann Sonata arranged • for Saxophone worked very well'
culminating in a very Parisian . sound of traffic chaos and a loud motorliorn! The next piece was a touchingly
simple melody “Hamabe No Uta” by Japanese composer Tamezo . Narita, to be accompanied by a love poem by Peter Foss which was in the programme. The con cert ended with two lively Spanish pieces, “Intermezzo from Goyes- cas”, by Granados, and “Pequena Czarda’’,- by Pedro Iturralde. A fi nal encore of Marin Marais’ wild folk dance “The Basque”, written again around 1700, sent the audi ence home, dancing through the snow and anticipating Christmas! An evening o f new and unfa
