"C 'T T ith weather experts warning that 2010
V V could become one of
the coldest UK winters in 100 years, Hillendale Land Rover in Nelson is giving advice to all motorists in how to counter adverse driving conditions as well as providing an opportuni ty for 4x4 ownership for less than £20,000. With continued snowfall and freez
ing temperatures Mr Collins Dealer ship Principle at Hillendale Land Rover, said: “Whether you’re heading into work on hazardous roads or embarking on a trip to the slopes in Europe, the latest spell of weather has demonstrated the chaos that a British winter can cause. “And to help cope more effectively
on snowy and icy roads, we recom mend that motorists take note of the following precautions to help avoid unnecessary accidents:” • In poor conditions good visibili ty is vital. Keep screen wash topped
up and ensure windscreen and win dows are clean. . . • Check front and rear lights are
clean and working. B Check the pressure and tread
depth of your tyres (including the spare). The minimum legal UK tread
depth is 1.6mm but it is widely accepted that performance is signifi cantly affected once tread depth dips below 3mm. • Recognise the increased danger
of ice in sub zero temperatures. Allow greater braking distances at traffic lights, crossroads and junctions. • Accelerate slowly on snowy
roads to prevent the formation of ice under the tyres. •1 Take extra care on bridges, for
est paths and shaded areas due to the increased risk of frost. • Carry some extra warm clothing
in case you become stranded. • Take hot drinks and some high
energy snacks if undertaking a long journey.
• Let someone know your intend
ed movements in case they need to raise the alarm.
• Make sure that your vehicle has
sufficient fuel for your journey. • Listen to traffic news and weath
er forecasts - avoid unnecessary trav el.
• Ensure your vehicle is serviced
regularly as winter places additional demands upon hoses, drive belts and batteries. Antifreeze levels should also be checked. In addition to advice for local
motorists, Hillendale has introduced the new entry-level Freelander 2 ‘White & Black’ Special Editions, for
discerning drivers looking to benefit from the performance of an award winning 4x4 in the current freeze. Offering the six-speed manual 2.2-
litre diesel powertrain complete with keyless starter button and Land Rover’s intelligent Stop/Start e_tech-' nology, the Freelander 2 Special Edi tions deliver a combined fuel econo my o f 42.2mpg and are priced at £19,495 on the road for the Free lander 2 White and £19,995 on the road for the Freelander 2 Black. Mr Collins added: “ The sub
£20,000 price on the ‘White & Black’ Special Editions represents excep tional value for money in the com pact SUV sector. Additionally, with the vehicle’s enhanced styling and specification, the Special Editions not only offer the Freelander 2’s trade mark ever-ready versatility, but are pleasing to the pocket and to the dis cerning eye.”
