Worshipping in wellies
“SUNDAY BEST” was wellies and warm coats for the parishioners of St John’s, Hurst Green, as they followed the Sunday morning worship with a few hours working to spruce up the church yard. All ages set to, tidying paths, raking
up leaves, pruning shrubs and cutting the wildflower meadow. A very wel come hot-pot lunch was prepared by the vicar, the Rev. Gill Mack. The annual event, called “Worship in
Wellies”, helps to manage the church yard, to encourage wildlife and contrib utes to the work for the Eco Congre

are planning to work towards their third Eco Congregation Award next year - one of only a few congregations in the UK to have achieved this! 0 Any churches wanting more infor

NATWEST is set to launch the sec ond phase of its Community Fund in' Glitheroe and the surrounding areas and is asking residents to decide how £5,000 will be shared by three local good causes. ■ Marie Curie Cancer Care, Offshoots Permaculture and Burnley Boys’ Club have been shortlisted and a public vote will decide which organisation receives the top donation of £3,000. The remaining two
charities will receive £1,000 each. The £5,000 fund was launched in August to support charities and good causes in
communities served by NatWest branches in Clitheroe, Burnley, Nelson, Padiham and Colne.
A-panel comprising representatives
from the local community reviewed the original applications and shortlisted the three charities to benefit from the fund. Riona Rebecca Marchini, senior bank
manager at NatWest in Clitheroe, said: “The Community Fund has really cap tured the imagination of the public and I have been overwhelmed by the response so far.
“It was always going to be difficult to
choose just three beneficiaries from the many good causes put forward and it was great to have local people help make that decision.
- “We have three very worthy winners, all ofwhom will benefit. “Now we need the public to decide how
the £5,000 is allocated.” ., The public can vote by visiting their lo
cal NatWest branch or online at
www.nat
west.com/communityfund. Voting opened on Monday and closes on Friday, Novem ber 26th. The winners will be announced the week commencing December 13th.
