LUSTY- BLOWS: Jon Harvey

A SUPERB all-round performance from Settle professional Brent Find-

.lay did the damage again as his side overcame Ribblesdale Wanderers. • The prolific pro led by example as

he struck an impressive century before claiming the scalps of five opposition batsmen after the turn-.; around.

..........

' And all in all if it hadn’t been for ; Findlay’s heroics the result of this fixture could, and probably would, have been entirely different. Thomas Strickland was the sec

ond highest scorer with 14, while Lawrence Read (12), Tom Davidson (13) and William Davidson (11) all scraped into double figures.-Tsg^

■ Wanderers professional;Jake ■ Brown did all he could with the ball claiming figures of 3-61 off 17 overs,

: but he couldn’t prevent the home ' side ending the innings on 168-6. " In response,’ the difference came.

when ■ the usually high-scoring Brown was removed for a duck which evidently sank the ■visitors. Ryan Gladwin struck four fours

on his way to 31 but he was let down by the remainder of the batting order who could only contribute low scores.' Craig Hall (12), Robert Lloyd

(11), Stephen Kerr (12) and Ian Britcliffe (11) all entered double fig ures, but i t wasn’t enough as they were bowled out 60 runs short of their target. Andrew Davidson claimed 3-23

while Tom Davidson claimed 2-23. Ribblesdale Wanderers now have

the perfect chanceito o’ectify this defeat at the weekend when they face a double-header. . , : Wcmderers will play host to Earby

on Saturday before travelling to Edenfield on Sunday, wickets pitchedatl-15p.m.' V..

Fallon’s fantastic four-wicket frenzy :i-- ■;; -i

"A-FANTASTIC four-wicket frenzy from Whalley’s Mark Fallon steered his side to vic tory in a low-scoring affair against Edenfield.

: The away ‘side /started brightly as Atif Ali Zaidi (21) and Christian Slinger (27) put on a 43-run first wicket part nership'before, the former’s bails were sent tumbling by Declan Fitzhenry.'-' ■

the bowlers with Martha Smith, Charlotte Ashton and

■Niamh Kay picking up one each, and Kiara Mcdonald adding two scalps to ■ her name. It wasn’t until the last over that the Winstanley total

■ inched into double figures, by which time the game was well and truly ■wrapped up by the Cobras Girls. • Meanwhile, squad members

Martha Smith, Niamh Kay and Millie Bolton had more reasons to celebrate.- They were all selected for

the Ribble Valley U l l Girls squad to take on Pendle and Burnley in a three-team Dis trict Festival.

Festival success for girls

RIBBLE Valley Girls’.Under 11 cricket team exceeded all expectations as they won their first festival of the Summer on a rare sunny day at Whalley CC. Burnley and Pendle were the

visitors to the Station Road ground as Ribble Valley hosted their East Lancashire neigh bours in the Lancashire Wom ens C r ick e t" Association (LWCA) Girls District compe tition.

^ The squad had representa

tion from Clitheroe Cobras CC, Longridge CC and Salesbury CC.

; . The girls had a li^ d y played and beaten'a strong Burnley team the week before in a 20- over warm-up game, so spirits were high for another successful day. The first game saw the visi

tors play each other with Bum- ley running out easy winners against an inexperienced Pendle side, a match which included a hat-trick for Burnley bowler Tenesha Rahman. RV girls played Pendle in

their first match and were put into bat first. However, a combination of

slow scoring and losing -wickets meant th ey could only post a score of 239. The score was certainly

achieveable but some very good tight bowling from Ribble Val ley meant Pendle only scored 230. In the final game of the trian

gular series RV faced Burnley in what was a festival decider.; RV batted first and made a

great start, scoring 215 after the first three overs after losing a wicket off the very first ball. A mini-collapse set RV back

to 202 at the haUway stage and Burnley certainly had their tails up and sensed -victory. However, RV’s batting is very

strong all the way through the squad and some excellent scor^ ing from the final four batters, especially, the final pairing of sisters Emma and Zoe Simpson, ■' who added 31, took the score up to a very competitive 254. :: Burnley stated well in reply but started to lose wickets reg-' ularly as they chased in -vain. • • The RV girls took sue in total and even with Burnley’s final pairing scoring 28 they could only-reach 236, giving the RV girls a.winning margin of 18 mns. The Ribble Valley side batted

superbly: and. with control throughout’ the d a y with Annabel Mayson being the highlight of an excellent fielding display. The final festival will be held

in Pendle, with RV only requir- - ing a'second place in order.to finish top of. the group and qualification for. the finals.—
