Village doctor’s surgery to close?

; A REQUEST by Slaidburn Surgery to close its one-after- noon-a-week . session - a t

. was the case between January and the end of September last year, with the same pattern continuing up to the present - day. In light of this, the practice

.has now proposed th a t the. session he held at Slaidburn,. • opening it up to all-comers in . the area and not just those from Bolton-hy-Bowland, so

. that the doctor’s time can be used more productively. Slaidhum Surgery’s propos

als have been p u t to NHS East Lancashire’s Contractor •

Service’s Panel which will now meet to, consider the matter. In line with proce dure, the panel consulted the practice’s patients and Ribble

- Valley Borough Council for their ■views, all of which will be considered when the panel is convened. ’ ; Slaidburn. Surgery, has made i t clear tha t if its clo sure request is agreed, it will still deliver medication to the local shop in Bolton-by- Bow- land once a week, and th a t home -visits to the house bound will continue as nor mal. A spokeswoman for NHS

East Lancashire confirmed: “An application has been sub mitted to close the once-a- week su rg e ry . session a t Bolton-by-Bowland. This will be considered by the Contrac tor Services Panel following consultation with the prac-- tice’s patients and the local council.”

Enjoyable gardening talk AN interesting talk entitled

. “Low Maintenance Garden ing” was enjoyed by mem bers of the Bolland Garden ing Club at their recent meet ing. The speaker was Bob

Sanderson from “Gath’s Gar-' den Plants”, , which is situat ed between Levens and Siz- ergh in the South Lakes. . :• He showed slides of many

different gardens that he and his wife, Cath, have designed and constructed for people

who were either unable or did not have sufficient time to cope with a labour.intensive garden; He also showed a selection of plants suitable for such gardens, which mem bers were later able to pur ch a se .- -P a t; Cunningham thanked Mr Sanderson for his- v e ry in te re s t in g and informative ta lk . After refreshments, served by Mrs Gill and Mrs Ratcliffe, all existing offices were re-elect ed at a short ACM.
