A. MUCH-LOVED and well-respected Clitheroe teacher died. Mr Henry' Oxburgh, who had been headteacher at Low Moor School for 33 years, died at the age of 67; After his death the town hall flag was flown at half mast but of respect. _ /

Child care success for two Helens

' J . - almost 30 years’ childminding experience, have gained a top award. : Helen Lawson, of Kemple View, and Helen Taylor, of Highfield Road, have both been recognised by Lancashire County Council for offering high quali- ty care. ■' - They were presented, with the Lan
cashire Quality Award, which is a quali ty assurance scheme that encourages reflective practice, and has taken' almost three years to achieve.

sions, were observed in their settings by their mentor and verifiers and pro duced portfolios for each of the eight modules. : The two Helens, who are members of
the Ribblesdale Childminding Network and attend the childminders’ support group based at Ribblesdale Children’s Centre in Clitheroe, are among only five childminders in the county who have achieved the award. . Both have also been “buddies” for the Support Childminding Project for the past three years providing support for new childminders in the first 12 months after registration. ' -Helen Lawson is currently working towards an Early Years Degree and Helen Taylor has almost completed . Level 3 NVQ in Child Care, Learning and Development.

Olympiad, making them the highest achiev ing physics students in the country. The gold medal was awarded to Joe Lea
(17), from Hurst Green. His medal success was described as “a significant achievement” by the British Physics Olympiad committee, as only the top 5%) of the 1,047 competitors achieve the required marks. Last year Joe was selected to attend the
Senior Physics Challenge Summer School at the prestigious Cavendish Laboratories at Cambridge University. He also has a condi tional offer to study mathematics at Oxford . University. - ■
