BLUES ENJOY DERBY
ROMP -PAGE 46
OQNUNl aim to erase memories ^ ^ P h i l Simpson I'V
REVENGE is the word on every one’s lips'at Clitheroe this week. The Blues travel to face Moss-
ley on Saturday, where memories of their last meeting will no doubt comefloodingback.
■ The Blues turned in one of, if their most abject performance of the whole campaign in a 2-0 defeat on the opening day of the season at Shawbridge. r -
■And Saturday represents an
opportunity not only to right a few wrongs, but to get Clitheroe’s promotion hunt back on track.
, Speaking this week, co-manag er Pete Smith said: “That was
'probably one of our worst per formances of the whole season. “It was the first game of the
- season, and to be frank it was a terrible way to get up and run-' ■ ning.
. . “And so on Saturday we will .;
have a point to prove against them from that performance. . ;
“You always look for revenge in the second game against a certain
■
■ side if you have been beaten in the' first one, but this game more so
: because of the performance we put in.
“We let the fans down on that -
day, and what we have to do is bounce back on Saturday, not only from that but from the defeat • on Monday as well.” • Clitheroe suffered their first
defeat under the joint leadership of Smith and Lee Sculpher on. Monday evening against Durham.
Defensive mistakes contributed
to a 3-1 reversal just two days after crushing another of their; play-off rivals Bamber Bridge 5-0
; on Saturday, Clitheroe’s biggest ', ■win of the season to date.
And after the highs of that win.
Smith was visibly disappointed to gift Durham all three points: “What I am disappointed in is the three goals we gave away, because they were all mistakes.
- ■ - “Unfortunately, against your
top sides like Durham, you can’t afford one mistake, let alone three. ; “If you let those kinds of mis takes creep in then you’re going to
be punished,- and we were.,
; .“The lads gave everything and I can’t fault that, but they have to learn that you can’t keep giving sides chances like that and expect to get away with them. ■ . , - ' .
“We are disappointed but we
move on, and we look to put it right at Mossley on Saturday.” .
Monday night also saw central
defender Jonathan Smith return to first team action for the first time since December, while Anthony Johnson also returned up front.
Both are included for Satur
day’s trip to Mossley, however Dave Hankin is a doubt after being substituted in the second half against Durham.
• Ian Flannery also remains on
the sidelines, but other than,- Clitheroe have a clean bill of" health ahead of the trip to Seel Park. ■
■ ■ . . • Blackburn Rovers Ladies are
back in action on Sunday when they welcome Everton to Shaw- , bridge in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Cup,’(kick-off 1 p.m.).

of the table, ahead of FC ' Halifax Town on goal - difference - but with six
