A FORMER Mayor of Glitheroe, Mr James McGhie, has died a t the age of 79. : , Mr. McGhie will be sadly missed by his wife, Hilda, family and by the local com­ munity which he served as a Labour councillor for many, years.. ' James was --known. by many: as Jimmy-and his; Glaswegian humour over-: spilled into.all areas of his: world. He enjoyed being involved in local politics and when he was installed as the -Mayor of Clitheroe in May; 1986, he was the first Scot to hold the office for 150 years and only the second Labour) mayor in 22 years. - ' ' - - > ’

aspects of current affairs and politics and was often involved in community caus­ es for residents of his ward., Upon retiring his health saw


■ a decline, but he still enjoyed being.involved in the com­ munity and was kept busy with his family. ..A caring, loving husband


and a great father, he leaves behind his wife, who he has been married for almost 45 years, and three children Cheryl and Kieron, who live


in New Zealand and Vivien, who lives in Greenhow in the Yorkshire Dales, also daugh- ter-in-law Kuth, and sons-in-; •


- law Nigel and Vuyo. He also -• ik-ves five grandchildren
