Sweet revenge for nine-goal Green!
Hurst Green...........9 Rock Rovers .. . .. . . . ; . . . .0
;
GREEN exacted revenge for a ter rible defeat at Rock with a terrific display of swift, attacking foot ball. : Green made three changes to
the team that lost their unbeaten start to the season, as in came Danny Walker, Paul Chippendale and Nicki Wilkinson for Stuart Malley, Mark Fordham and Chris Leighton. Right from the start they played with passion, belief and
hunger, and were rewarded with a goal in the opening five minutes as Walker’s shot from a Tipton cross was saved, only for Dewhurst to snaffle up the rebound. Green doubled their lead^ithin
10 minutes as Walker flicked on a long ball to set Chippendale clear
to round the keeper and slot homa Tipton made it three halfway
through :;the first half: as Dewhurst, Wilkinson and Chip pendale combined well to set up the left winger, who finished well. Rock;briefly threatened, but’ Chippendale grabbed his second.
into the second half as Green kept up the pressure, and Walker dou
and Walker got on in the act just before half-time as he converted an excellent Tipton cross. The one-way traffic continued
bled his tally as he deftly lifted the ball over the keeper after being released by the excellent Dewhurst. : There was a slight lull in the' game after Taylor was replaced by Simpson following an injury, and the -visitors again tried to get their consolation goal, but Young was n’t tested.
The seventh goal came as Tip-
ton whipped in a free kick and ■ Wilkinson, got the slightest of - touches.' Substitute Leighton scored the
goal of the game minutes later as he hit a sweet 20-yard right-footer into the far comer for his third of
• the season, and Simpson rounded things off nicely to cap a vintage performance by Hurst Green. Green will want a repeat of this
performance as they face Read United on Saturday (kick-off 2 - p.m.).

Slacksleads St Joseph's .1 Riminglon . . . . ______ .,3 THIS game was a great advert for the East Lancashire League, with
Rimington edging a battle of two of the top sides. ■

■ The villagers, playing into the- wind, had much the better of the
. first half, and created enough : chances to have won the game. • As it was, they had to settle for
a 2-0 lead at the break, mainly due to the heroics of the home keeper. The opening goal arrived just
before the half hour mark, follow ing a. quick passing move which
' , ■
- left Dinsdale the chance to side- foot past the keeper... : -Five minutes later, Lloyd fed
strike partner Penman to make it 2-
0. Danny Anderson pulled off a
tremendous save after the forward beat the off-side trap, only to see his effort diverted over the top, and Lloyd and Dinsdale both squandered chances to seal the game, taking a touch too many to
■give the keeper a chance. ■ Rimington expected a barrage
from the hosts after the break, but stood firm and created a killer third goal when Heslop created- room to cross, and Lloyd headed home powerfully.
when a free kick found its way to the. back post for a simple tap-in, but Terry Braithwaite was happy with the performance, and will- look for more of the same at Mill Hill on Saturday.

GRINDLETON marched on to the quarter-finals of the Northern Plant Hire Trophy with a win over plucky Craven League First Divi sion opponents. The home team took the lead with their first real effort on goal,
when a deflected shot found the net. •
-.- From this point, the locals took , complete control of the game and played some.excellent football, with Paul Parkinson running things in midfield..: j.-The inevitable equaliser came just moments later.
. The excellent Martin Cowey took on two defenders on the edge of the area, before jinking past the
keeper and firing home for a superb individual goal. The second half started well for
Grindleton when a good run by Martin Dobson found him one on one with the keeper, and a cool fin ish under pressure made it 2-1.= Grindleton were now playing
some excellent football, and with 20 minutes remaining, a cross from Cowie found Pete Daiken, who, after his initial header was blocked, rolled back the years with a spinning back heel into the net.
■ The victory was sealed with minutes to go when a back-^heel
from Cowey found an unmarked Dave Parkinson, who rifled the ball home to ensure safe passage for Grindleton.

proved to be much as expected in the conditions, with tight forward exchanges and handling errors on both sides. Clitheroe took the lead
with a nicely-slotted penalty from full-back Lafranceschina, only to have it matched by Chor ley a few minutes later. With the match and
score evenly-balanced, Chorley suddenly decided it was time for some open . passing rugby. Building from just

involved several times, Wilkinson showed great handling in the conditions to keep the move alive, and Farnsworth drove forward with great verve. As ever it was a tactic
