Drunken burglar dialled 999 • after injury during break-in
tence and was given 12 months prison, suspend ed for two years, with supervision. At an earlier hearing at Blackburn Magis
trates’ Court, Taylor pleaded guilty to burglary at the house, theft of a bottle of champagne, a bottle of gin and a cheque book. The magistrates heard that he bled so pro
fusely inside the house that he caused more than £7,500 worth of damage to carpets and furni ture.
When the house owner, who was away on hol
iday at the time, returned two days later she said her home smelled like an abattoir. She was
still cleaning up blood four weeks after the break-in.
Taylor’s lawyer told the magistrates that he
had been so drunk on the day of the break-in that he thought the house belonged to a friend. Passing sentence at the Crown Court, Judge
Andrew Gilbart QG told Taylor he had allowed his gift for music to be swamped by alcohol. He said: “What a thing to throw away for
drink, the ability to be a musician. Don't throw it away. If you come back before me. I’ll send you do\vn.” Mr Stuart Martin (prosecuting) told the
court around 5 p.m. on September 21st, 2006, a call was received from an address in Chatburn Road, Clitheroe, saying someone was badly injured. Taylor later admitted he had broken into the
property and fallen asleep. When he woke up he tried to get out by smashing a window and cut himself. Mr Fraser Livesey (defending) handed the
judge various certificates relating to Taylor’s musical achievements, including an outstanding student award and performer of the year. Taylor was now receiving treatment for his alcoholism.
