Halsall ...............................0 Chipping ..........................2 CHIPPING ran out deserved winners as they made their longest trip of the season on Saturday. On a pitch that, despite

the poor recent weather, generally stood up well. Chipping played some excellent football and were comfortable in their victo ry.

The villagers started

well, and looked to move the ball quickly in midfield and create openings for the front two. A number of half

chances were fashioned, but Chipping found the home keeper in good form as he kept out a couple of snap-shots. However, he could do

nothing as the locals made the breakthrough on the

half hour. Some good passing

caused havoc in the Halsall box, and two Chipping players were brought down, either of which would have resulted in penalties. However, the ref eree played an excellent advantage as the ball rolled to Ben Rice, who lashed the ball into the top comer. This stung Halsall into

life, and they began to pass the ball well in the middle of the park. But they never really

threatened as the hard work of Ian Hornby and Dave Barton in midfield and the assured back four of man-of-the-match Danny Walmsley, Ryan Hilton, Dean Austin and 01 Johnson kept them at bay.

The second half began

with Halsall looking to press for an equaliser. This could have come as

a long ball sent the striker clear, but keeper Matt Ire land closed him down well to block. Mark Fordham went

close with a good curling effort which was well saved, before Chipping scored a second to seal the game. A corner from the left

was expertly swung in by Rice and met at the far post by Hornby, who poked home to make it 2-0. The villagers have not

managed back to back wins all season, but they will be looking to change tha t when they play Charnock Richard in the village on Saturday (kick off 2 p.m.).

Rimington’s hopes hit

Rimington Reserves . .2 BGSOB Reserves ...........5 RIMINGTON suffered another defeat a t the weekend against top of the league BGSOB. A disastrous start,

which saw the visitors go 3-0 up after 20 minutes, gave the locals little chance of a comeback. BGSOB scored with a

header from a comer after 10 minutes, before a neat finish from a simple pass through the centre of defence made it 2-0. Another free header

from a cross gave the league leaders a perfect start. Rimington then started

to play, and the calling card came 10 minutes

Wolves Under 8 s ..............1 Accrington Stanleg . . .1 CLITHEROE Wolves turned in one of their best passing performances of the season against Accrington Stanley at Highmoor on Sunday morning, and were duly rewarded with a convinc ing win. In blustery conditions,

Clitheroe dominated the first period and went into the break \vith a comfort able lead.

Accrington continued to

fight on and were rewarded in the second half with a well-taken goal, but Wolves continued to push on, and a hat-trick apiece from Owen and Frankie Jackson, added to by an excellent strike by

Charlie Dewhurst, gave the home team a well-deserved victory. Wolves Under 11s Red .4 Darwen................................1 A HARD-working team performance saw Wolves earn a valuable victory over free-scoring Darwen. The first half was goal

less, with both teams hav ing reasonable chances, and some tough tackling in midfield from Matthew Farnsworth for Wolves. The home side almost

stole the lead with an audacious lobbed shot from the left by Andrew Tomlinson, which clipped the bar. The second half saw

more chances, with both keepers pulling off some great saves, but inevitably the goals came.

The scorers for Wolves

were Brandon Garside (2), Ryan Cattermolo and George Bicknell. Wolves did well to con

tain a side that had scored nearly 50 goals in the league this season, with good work from Sam Rob son, Niall Scorer and Paul McGrath.

Lammack Junior s____0 Langho Under 11s . . . .1 AFTER two months with out a game. Langho extended their unbeaten run to four games with vic tory over Lammack. Eddie Yates nearly

scored in the first minute, and that set the tone for the rest of the match, with Lammack struggling to get out of their own half.

but defending resolutely, with goalkeeper Niall Coster outstanding. However, just before

half-time, a superb through ball from Patrick Fordham beat the defence, leaving Joe Clarke one on one with the keeper, and he coolly chipped the ball over him for a well- deserved goal. The second half began

with Lammack pressing much more, while Langho had four goals ruled out for off-side.

M an -o f - th e -m a tch

James Blow was a continu al threat for the locals as the opposition struggled to cope with his pace. And Langho managed

to cope with the sporadic Lammack attacks, the closest they came to equal-

ising being a rare corner that struck the bar.

Readslone Under 8s . .11 Brierfield Celtic Red . .0

A HAT-TRICK of hat- tricks saw United stay top of the table with an emphatic win. Max Laird, John Hous

ton and Joe Noone all weighed in with a personal treble.

William Wrathall and

Aiden Duffy were also on target.

Readstone Under 16s. .6 Wilpshire Wanderers . .0 FOUR goals from Ben Bridson helped the Under 16s cement top spot in the league. Josh Corrigan also net

ted twice to complete a one-sided contest.

The man-of-the-match award went the way of

Thomas Halliwell. Readstone Under 10s . .1 Barnoldswick Barons. .2 OLIVER Dugdale starred as United came unstuck against the Barons. A tight contest saw

chances for both sides, in another excellent team performance. But Toby Fletcher’s g r i

proved to be no more consolation. Andrew Rushton and

Tom McEvoy also gave their all. Readstone Under 11s . .0 Fulledge Colts ................6 THE Under 11s crashed out of the cup at the hands of Fulledge. Luke Wilde was named man-of-the-match, and the players deserve praise for not giving up.

before the break as Joe McTear rose above the keeper to head home a cross from Sam Johns. Rimington pressed for a

second, and were unlucky not to get it, the closest effort coming from Jack Dearden, as he drilled a low shot agonisingly wide of the post with the keeper well beaten. The half-time team talk

seemed to do the trick as Rimington pressed for a second. However, against the

run of play, and with an off-side decision not given, BGSOB countered and slotted home the killer goal. Rimington’s heads were down, but they quickly

regrouped as the introduc tion of last year’s East Lancashire League top scorer had an instant affect, as Matt Garner slotted through Dearden to finish exquisitely over the keeper and gift the side a lifeline. However, the final nail

was driven into the coffin with 20 minutes to go, as the Rimington defence left a striker unmarked, and he was threaded through for the fifth. With teams beating

each other at the top of the league, Rimington’s title hopes still have a glimmer of hope, but they wll need to turn the negatives into positives if they are to turn this season around.

JOSH Dean took two late wickets for Clitheroc Cobras Under 13s A. (s)

Josh’s double strike ®

JOSH Dean, only called into the side as an injury replacement, took two wickets in the final over to give Clitheroe Under 13s A victory over Read in the Ribble Val ley Indoor Cricket League. A steady batting performance had seen

Clitheroe put 46 runs on the board in their allotted sk overs. Read openers Grimshaw and Hartley

raced away, scoring 22 runs from their first two overs, but accurate bowling from Dean and Ashworth, supported by excel lent fielding, slowed the run rate down. The final over saw Read needing seven

runs to win, and captain Matthew Ash worth gave the ball to Dean, who justified his skipper’s selection with a pair to see them home. Clitheroe then notched up a 35-run win

over Longridge, to put them within a win over Whalley from taking the title. A strong batting performance saw Clitheroe total 50 in their six overs. Again Graham and Ashworth put in

good performances with the bat to set Clitheroe up lor a high score. Some fine, accurate bowling in the mid

dle of the innings, from Sam Bristol and Dean tied the Longridge batsmen down, and the final over saw them needing 21 runs to win. Wicket keeper Dan Fitzgerald took two

great catches and a stumping off the bow ing of Graham to see the Chatburn Road side home by 35 runs. Two fine wins at the weekend saw the

Clitheroe B team move into second place in the league. Good, steady batting set Longridge B a

total of 50 to win, but notable bowling performances from Saud Ahmed, Daniel Mort and Robert Gibb ensured they fin ished well short of their target on 37. In their final game of the weekend, the

B team took on Whalley, as the bowling trio of Ahmed, Mort and Gibb limited the Whalley batsmen to 13 runs, before knocking off the runs with balls to spare.

Backhouse is the powerhouse!

Pendle.............................. 24 Clitheroe Buccaneers Under 15s..........................12 CLITHEROE Bucca neers Under 15s came off second best at a Pendle side with several talented players. Clitheroe’s first try came

from Tom Backhouse, a powerhouse of a player, who ran 30 yards, shrug ging off several would-be tacklers in the process, to score under the posts. Francis Devine was gift ed the second try, when.

after a melee in the Pendle try area, all he had to do was fall on the ball, and it was jus t deserts for his wholehearted efforts in attack and defence. Pendle, however, were

stronger as a unit, and had a few flair players th a t Clitheroe found hard to contain. The pick of their tries

came from a beautiful team effort that swept up and across the field, result ing in a try under the posts.

Other players that shone

out for Clitheroe were Tom Walton and Robert Spens- ley-Jones.
