pictured, is retiring from Sabden Primary Schooh ; in July after 14 years at the school and a total of; 38 years in the teaching: profession.

' Born in • Dunsop Bridge, Mrs Dundon (59) moved to Clitheroe ;, as a child and attended Clitheroe Royal Gram mar School before head ing off to Birmingham for her teacher training. She married her hus band Michael, originally

THE dangers that can be posed by strangers and criminal damage were two serious subjects dealt mth when Com munity.Beat Manager Justin Brown spoke to children at Oakhill College. For Year 1 and 2 pupils he focused on

“Stranger Danger” which has had a lot of national press and TV coverage recently. Integral to this was determin ing just exactly what constituted a “stranger” and indeed pointing out that not all strangers were bad or dangerous people. ■ PC Brown explained to them what they had to do to stay safe in the event that they were approached by a' stranger or if they were in a position with which they were uncomfortable. Similarly he gave advice on what sort of person they should approach if the chil dren got lost or needed help.;

■ - With Year 6 pupils he discussed the

subject of criminal damage given that the children in this year group (from the age of 10) are deemed in law as being responsible for their actions. He explained what constituted criminal damage, such as graffiti and vandalism, and demonstrated this by breaking one of the children’s pencilsl The talk was aimed at trying to impress upon the pupils how for some children who start down this path (often as a prank) it can often lead: them into more serious crimes. A message that seemed to be well received and acknowledged by the pupils.

Pictured is PC Brown enjoying a spot

of home cooked lunch at the college with (from the left) Eduardo Siguero- Campo.(Sabden);Nicholas Barnes. (Wiswell) Joshua'Erskine. (Brockhall Village) and Emilie Livesey (Black burn), (s)

A SOCCER skills demonstration with world-, record freestyle champion John Farnworth was the highlight of a week of health and fitness activities at Clitheroe’s Edisford Primary School. ' ■ ; •.; Each day, of the week saw a full timetable of - . activity sessions for pupils, all co-ordinated by.

; Miss Emma Blockeel. They included soccer coach-. ing skills provided by Blackburn Rovers, cycling sessions; fitness testing by Roefield staff, mini-,

' OljTnpics, dance activities and a roller blade disco. ;; - There was also a,healthy eating day and the week-; : culminated in a whole-school walk, followed by a picnic at Edisford Bridge. ■ • Pictured is soccer skills star John Farnworth tak- •• : ing a skills activity session with Year 4 pupils.'(s)';-!-

PUPILS, at St Michael and St John’s - RC Primary School, Clitheroe, have - been busy spreading the message of-- friendship across the world. - ■ ; - They had an entire day dedicated to p raising funds for-“Save the Children”

by holding a friendship fun day.-The event was organised by the School Council and was aimed at fostering and - strengthening friendships. As part of the fun day, they decided;

; to ask everyone to wear “funny feet” for ^ the, day, in return for a small donation : for the charity. The youngsters arrived in school.with weird and wonderful!

; footwear. Throughout the day they als^ turned their hands to making frien ship books,; writing friendship poem and each class made a friendship chain,. symbolising the linking of hands. The overall length of the decorated paper chain was 69m. 40cm. ^

; - Pupils enjoyed eating funny feet bis cuits for lunch and the School Council ended the day with a special assembly. > The activities were enjoyed by, all and

■ raised just over £170 for “Save the Chil-, dren”.
