Grindleton . . . . . . . . 4 C o w lin g ................. . . . . 3 GRINDLETON came from two goals behind to win this West Riding County Cup tie. The league leaders

•F-

entertained their First Division counterparts who took advantage of some sloppy defending to race in to a two-goal lead. The first came as the

Cowling striker got the better side of full hack Darren Jackson to strike the hall home past Lloyd in goal. The visitors then dou

bled their lead as the defence were caught nap ping, allowing the Cowl ing number eight a clean strike at goal. However, this game

was far from over and with 10 minutes of the half remaining Grindle ton pulled one hack through midfielder James Driver who went on a mazy run and unleashed a sweet strike to beat the Cowling keeper all ends up. Grindleton started the

second half brighter but actually fell further behind early on as they failed to clear their lines and Cowling struck again. But with 35 minutes of

the half remaining, Grindleton were far from dead and were deter mined to win this cup tie. Steve Walker pulled

one back with a brave challenge against the advancing Cowling keep er to bring the deficit back to one, and with virtually the next attack Grindleton drew level through arguably the best move of the match. The tireless Walker

delivered a pin-point cross from the left which found striker Scott Field ing, who heat the keeper with a fine header from inside the six-yard box. So with the tie finely

poised, and both teams searching for the winning goal, the hosts conceded an untimely penalty when centre half Ollie Cross stumbled across the advancing striker and gave the visitors a chance to re-take the lead. However, the resulting

penalty was spectacular ly saved by Lloyd diving to his right and palming the ball out to safety. And with only minutes

remaining Grindleton seized their chance and put Cowling to the sword when the impressive Walker challenged the keeper once again to head the ball into the back of the net. ■ More football on

CLITHEROE RUFC Buccaneers Under 13s acquitted themselves marvellously in a four-team tournament organised by Burnley on Sunday. In autumnal sunshine, the lads opened their account

with a spirited display against the home side. In recent seasons games against Burnley have been well-matched and competitive, with this one being no

Colne and Nelson was even tougher. Competing well against a bigger and heavier pack,
