Mark’s ace at Whalley

MARK Tuley went ace at Whalley Golf Club on Saturday. And his dream shot helped Tuley and part
ner, Kevin Walker, to third spot in the club’s Greensomes medal competition. Tuley hit his perfect shot at the 178-yard, par-three ninth hole. And his six-iron cost him a bottle of whisky
which was enjoyed by fellow members in the clubhouse later in the day. Andy and Paul Wray (69-5.5-63.5) were the
winners on the day. Having won the Greensomes Knockout the

previous weekend, they again beat Trevor Thomber and Colin Elliott (75-8-67) into sec ond spot as Tuley and Walker (82-13-69) fin ished third. The regular season drew to a close at Myt
ton Fold with the traditional Champion of Champions Competition. Contested by all golfers who have finished
first or second in any singles competition throughout the year, it is always highly com petitive. This year, Bob Scott emerged victorious
with a fine 77-10-67 score which was four shots too good for the rest of the field. In second place was Neil Osliffe (79-8-71)
who just edged Gordon Lucas (89-18-71) into third place. For those golfers who did not qualify for the

picking up the first team bowling prize. Richard Shovelton grabbed both the

the qualifying and knockout stages of this competition, the Mytton Fold ladies finally succumbed in the semi-final to a strong South- port and Ainsdale side. However, this was an excellent performance
by the team considering this is only the second year they have entered this prestigious event. An 11-under par gross 60 won the Four Man
Texas Scramble at Clitheroe. Scott Thompson, Carl Drinkwater, Paul
Traynor and Martin Sherlicker produced some sparkling golf to finish with an nett 56.6 for first prize. But it was a close call as they beat John Fryer, Jeff Crowther, Nigel Fitton and David
Wilson by just one shot. Sunday’s medal saw Tom Poole return to the
winners’ enclosure with a fine two-under 69. He dropped only one shot on the back nine and this enabled him to push John Wetton into
second place. Derek Marsh found a dropped shot on the
