Park on road or face fine say police

POLICE in Langho are warning careless motorists to avoid parking on the pave

ments - or face being fined. The stark warning has been issued by

Community Beat Manager PC Andy Lang after complaints from pedestrians, particu larly disabled people with mobility scooters and mothers with pushchairs, about the on going problem of cars and vans being parked on pavements. To clamp down on this, PC Lang, together

with the area’s Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Mick Turner, will be seen patrolling the Whalley Road area of Langho and handing out on-the-spot fines of £40 to people c a u ^ t parking on the pavements. They are also in the process of delivering letters in the village making drivers aware of

the problem. PC Lang said: “I have received complaints

from some members of our commumty about the way vehicles are parked in the village, particularly when they encroach on to the pavements making it impossible for mobility scooters and wheelchair-users to get access. “I realise that parking is a problem in some

parts of the village and most people do try to park considerately. Nevertheless, I would like motorists to be extra careful and think about pedestrians when parking in busy areas in

Langho.’’ PCSO Turner added: “Once the lettem are

delivered, we are going to monitor the situa tion closely. If motorists continue to ignore the warning, we will have no choice but to issue fines.” Anyone wishing to speak to PC Lang or

PC Turner about the matter is asked to leave a message on their voicemail on 01254

IF Sven-Goran Eriksson’s England World Cup squad needs any help with penalty shoot-outs this sum mer, they would be well advised to go talent spotting at Oakhill Col lege in Whalley. For boys from Year 5 and Year 6

“SENSATIONAL” - th a t ’s how organisers of a charity ball have described th e ir latest fund-raiser. More than 200 people

donned weird and wonderful costumes bought from Clitheroe charity shops and attended the “'What not to wear - the bad taste bash!” charity extravaganza in aid of two deserving causes. The Stirk House Hotel, in Gisburn, was the venue of the

fund-raiser, which raised £6,200 to boost funds for the East Lancashire Hospice and Cancer Research UK. Attractions during the sell

out event included live enter tainment by three-piece band “Vivid”, a raffle with jewellery prizes, a disco and supper. Organisers of the event, Mrs

shops. “I would like to say a big
