V Lesley all geared up for
Manchester concert
BRITAIN'S best loved clas sical performer, Lesley Gar re t t , will be treating audi ences to an intimate evening of e n te r ta inm e n t a t T he Bridgewater Hall, Manches ter, on Thursday, June 15th. Joined by a few friends, Lesley
presents a brand new pro gramme of familiar songs and arias accompanied by piano and small ensemble. She is joined by Musical
Director and pianist Tolga Kashif, who has arranged some fabulous songs for the small ensemble of keyboard, reeds, bass and percussion.
“SEPARATE TABLES”; at the Royal Exchange, Man chester
“SEPARATE TABLES” was Terence Rattigan’s last success before John Osborne’s “Look Back in Anger” changed British drama completely. Rattigan’s play has worn well.
Set in a 1950s small hotel in Bournemouth, it traces the loves and hates of a group of guests, most of whom live there perma nently. There are two plots, one
involving John Malcolm and Ann Shankland, a couple whose
. dramatic divorce had ruined Malcolm’s life, and the other where the shocking discovery of

will feature some old favourites, including “I Will Wait For You”, “The Summer Knows”, “Ave Maria”, “Summertime” and “Where Do I Begin”, as well as some exciting new addi tions to Lesley's repertoire such as “Skylark” , “The Way We Were”, “My Heart Will Go On” and “If You Go Away”. Classi cal pieces include “Adieu Notre Petite Table” , “Nana” and “Con Que La Lavare”. The curtain rises at 7-30 p.m.
and tickets are available from the Box Office on 0161907 9000 or online at

“Major” Pollock’s closet homo sexuality goads the other guests, except vulnerable young Sybil, into trying to get rid of him. Cooke and Holman were thor oughly believable in such differ ent roles, but they were helped by an excellent supporting cast, particularly Alexandra Mathie as the hotel manageress. Miss Cooper, who is instrumental in resolving both plots. Janet Hen- frey relished her role as the bossy, narrow-minded Mrs Rail- ton-Bell, poor Sybil’s mother, accompanied by Ann Firbank as Lady Matheson, her quieter but nicer friend.
