JOE IN GREAT FORM IN WIN

-PAGE 71 Thursday, May 4th, 2006 l i with your sports team of Edward Lee, Chris Boden, Phil Simpson and Adrian Capstick ______ By Adrian Capstick Boss confirmed!

MARK Smitheringale has been con firmed as Clitheroe PC’s manager for next season. And he will be assisted by Neil

Reynolds in a player-coach capacity. The committee feel that the Blues

boss has impressed enough over the past few months, in what has been a difficult time for the club, to warrant taMng the helm full time. And acting-chairman Carl Gamer

believes it is the right appointment: “We feel Mark has done enough to have a crack at it with a clean slate. He has done a good job under not ideal circum stances, and has justified his postion. “And we are excited that Neil

Reynolds has taken up our offer to be player-coach, as we look to a busy recruitment period over the summer months and build for next season.” Smitheringale took over the manag

er’s position in February at the height of the club’s finanadal problems, and as the club has steadied itself off the pitch, he has rebuilt the side, brought stability to the team and is now ready for the future. The Blues boss said: “I’m really look

ing forward to working with Neil who is an integral part of the playing staff. I t is a fantastic opportunity for us to take the club forward. A number of things have yet to be discussed over the coming weeks as we look to strengthen the team in all areas.” And Neil Reynolds is very much

looking forward to the challenge: “I’ll be taking the lads for training and will be involved in recruiting players. I’d like to stress that I’m not an assistant man ager, but very much a player-coach. “I’m working towards my UEFA B

coaching badge and this all helps, and I just hope, in terms of player recruit ment, I can attract players to Clitheroe FC. “I feel Mark has done an excellent

job in a short space of time and we are looking to get a nucleus of local players who are proud of playing for the club and want to wear the.blue shirt. We’re looking for the same kind of spirit that saw us win the North West Counties First Division two seawns ago.” Smitheringale added: “If you look

at the final table there is very little between the sides, but if I look back at the Eastwood Town, Belper Town and Ossett Albion games, they were fixtures we should have picked up points from. “We’ve had to bring in six players

midway through the season and they’ve settled in and played well, and I ’m extremely pleased and proud of how the whole team have pulled together. “Gregg Anderson is only 21 and

then you’ve got Andy Sunley and Chris Coupe who have all made the big step up from Counties football and shown that they can cut it.” Clitheroe ended their UniBond

campaign with a 1-0 win over Bam- ber Bridge on Saturday to finish 16th

in the league. And Monday witnessed an.enter-

taing 3-1 defeat to Conference cham pions Accrington Stanley with new face Rob Henry featuring for the Blues. Smitheringale said:“Rob was

guesting for us against Accrington Stanley, he’s just been released by Burnley and a player of that quality has lots of options open to him. He is a hopeful for next season, but he has had offers from Accrington, Wrex ham and Darlington th a t he will obviously follow up first. “I was very pleased and flattered

that Stanley brought down their first team players and I thought our lads did us proud. It was a great occasion showing the level of football we need to aspire to if we are to attain their standards. We acquitted ourselves well.” Clitheroe are holding this year’s

end of season presentation evening at Mytton Fold Hotel, which will also be a joint celebration to mark the 10th anniversary of the club’s 1996 FA Vase Final at Wembley. The night is Friday, May 26th and

tickets are priced at £22.50 which includes two live acts, supper, raffle and stand-up bingo. And the club aims to re-group the

whole Vase squad for the night. For further information, or to buy

your ticket, please contact Clitheroe FC commercial manager Bob Kay (07815458532).
