Theo helps to solve a picture mystery
A CYCLING enthusiast from Tosside has helped solve a two-wheeled mystery.
In last.week’s Clitheroe Advertiser and Times, we featured a photograph taken outside the White Bull, Ribchester.
It showed two men pictured outside the village hostelry, with a bike leaning against one of the pub’s four pillars.
Mr Theo Parsons, who started club cycling himself in 1933; called into our King Street
• office on Monday with information which he believes helps date the picture to the 1930s.
The style of the bike and the clothing worn by the pair are the clues used by Mr Parsons to date the photograph.
He said: “Back then all bikes were black and the plus fours these men are wearing, would have been made out of Harris Tweed in all probability. They were made specially for cycling as they had a double seat in them.” .
