MORE than 140 people attend ed the launch of a charity, host ed by a well-known Ciitheroe family. Mr and Mrs John Lancaster,
of Edisford Road, organised the event, held at the Grand in York Street, in aid of Open Arms International (OAI). The registered Christian-'
based medical charity, which focuses on Eastern Europe and Africa, provides medical exper tise and Christian ministry to people suffering emotionally, physically and spiritually. Originally founded in the US,
the charity relies on teams of volunteers who take short-term trips to the neediest in the world - especially where children have been orphaned because of AIDS. They have specific programs
County’s police named the best

THE Lancashire Constabulary has been named as the Best Public Sector Organisation in
the North West. Recently the constabulary
became the first police force in the North West to be presented with this award at a prestigious ceremo ny held at St Georges Hall in Liv erpool. The North West Excellence
Award recognises organisational excellence and a commitment to continuous improvement. The award was made following
an intensive evaluation carried out by independent assessors in August. This comes after Her Majesty’s
Inspectorate of Constabulary named Lancashire as one of the high performing police forces in the country earlier in the year. The citation for the award said:
“The senior management team clearly act as role models for improvement and encourage inno vation - there are many examples to demonstrate that the force has been proactive in promoting good practice.” Chief Superintendent Mike Bar
