First Division Splash hit Dolphins make history

CLITHEROE Dolphins concluded a successful year in fine form when they swam to third place in the Speedo League Minor Division Final. Performing in the competition for the first time in the club’s 32 year

history, a 25-strong team, pictured above, travelled to the Manchester Aquatics Centre to feature in the eight-team final. And after a thrilling afternoon

with great swims from all the team, the Dolphins held on to third place

one-sided as the score may suggest, as Blackpool played well for the majori ty of the game but failed to make any of their pos session count, while Clitheroe opened the scor ing through a well-worked penalty corner routine, with Pauline Moorby hav ing the last touch. And the score remained

1-0 to Clitheroe until after the half-time break, when Rachel Walmsley began to shake off her marker. She got all three of the

goals in the second half, the last of which was a fantastic strike, worthy of goal of the season. Clitheroe are now

games a t the Hyndburn Sports Centre in recent seasons, Clitheroe are “coming home” in the new year. On Saturday, January

15th, they will play their f irs t game at their new base a t the Ribblesdale High Technology College artificial pitch. And they will be hoping

day included three individual wins for Elizabeth Highton and one for

Hannah Pym as the team finished on l89 points behind Northwich and Bolton in first and second respectively. Dolphins’ coach Jonathan Preston

praised his team’s performance: “ This is a result for all the hard work

put in by the swimmers and club volunteers. “We had the youngest team at the
