FOOTBALL may be today's popular game, but rugby was the sport on this week's timetable for Clitheroe school-
children. ■
- Over 400 youngsters from the town's five primary schools gathered at St Michael and St John's RC School playing fields for some expert tuition in the intricacies of the
game. On hand were coaches from Clitheroe
Rugby Club, one of whom is head teacher Mr Vincent Murray, plus three coaches
from Lancashire Rugby Football Union. Together they .taught the Year 4 and
Year 5 pupils the running, passing, tack ling and scoring techniques necessary to give them a feel for the sport.

. The aim of the instruction is to develop , junior rugby in the area by giving the chil dren a taster day. . Mr Murray said: "We are trying to
encourage the playing of rugby in the Rib- ble Valley. If the children enjoyed the game and want to do more, they can now
join regular training sessions." . Courses are held on the St. Michael and

ALONG with the rest of the Ribble Valley, Clitheroe Young Farmers' Club enjoyed a fun night at the Torchlight procession. Dressed as cowboys and Indians on a Wild,
Wild West theme, members had an extreme ly memorable evening and congratulated the town on the organisation of the event. Now members are eagerly awaiting the next
Torchlight procession after this year’s success. At their meeting, members heard a talk on farmhouse cheeses by Kirkham's Cheese.
