with a home tie against Mid lan d C om b in a t io n o u t f i t
-. Studley in the third round. The Blues came from behind -
to dispose: of. Bedlington 3-1 at Shawbndge m front of a bumper crowd of 485 on Saturday. ; In a match which could easily
have graced
the.final — such is the pedigree of both clubs - Clitheroe fell behind early in the second half only to hit back with three goals in the final 15 minutes. The Blues were helped by the
red card shown to Terriers player Alex Lawson in the 72nd minute.
• However, manager Lee Sculpher felt it was only a matter of time - before his side scored, with or with
out the sending-off. He said: “It was a fantastic
result for us. I thought we deserved
to win. “Even on the balance of play
before their player was sent-off, we created slightly the better chances,
and if we had a bit more quality m the final third in the first half, we could have gone in at half-time m
thelead. “Having said that, the sending-
off did change the game but just before that, Kris Richens made a fantastic save to stop them going 2-0 ahead, so you could say that
was the real turning point of the
game. “But I felt the goal was always
going to come, regardless of them being reduced to.10-men, such was ■ the pressure we were having at the
time.” Sculpher can understand why
Bedlington consistently win the
/ Northern League and do well in ' the Vase year after year. He added: “They were a very
good,-physical side. We hadto compete with them and overall, I
think we deserved the win. . > ■■ “We created some good oppor
ple of good saves. ‘ “Chris Whittingham. got. in
behind their defence a few times but unfortunately pulled his cross es back too far. “But it's great to get through
Trcvor Brooking with the Carlsberg FA Vase ■
tunities for ourselves m the first h a lf and their keeper made a cou
and obviously we want to progress ■ as far as we can. “All of the other teams in the
competition will probably be glad to see the back of Bedlington. “It’s a great scalp for us but I
am sure if they had beaten us, it would have been a great scalp for them.”. . ..
