THE chairman of the Fire Brigade Commit tee tested the members of the brigade. The ■ alarm - fire at the Jubilee Mill - was given and the fire station was ablaze with lights, manned and the engine drawn into the road

A COMBINED operation to improve the "pightmare" lane which-linked their isolated district and the outside world was undertaken by 16 Bowland farmers. With their own hands and with £2,000 of
their own money they repaired the three-mile long Anna Lane between Forest Becks and

badly. Playing with only nine men, they were two goals down and looked like being thor oughly beaten by Blackburn West, when their 63-year-old trainer, Mr Jack Neill, took
