COLLEAGUES, friends.and rela tives were keen to see that Mr John Hornby had a fitting send-off intp retirement. ,
' : His 30 years of working for the sick and injured from Clitheroe's
ambulance station were fittingly honoured at a party held in Billing- ton Brass‘Band Club. People from other branches of the
local medical service were among the guests. Mr Hornby has had several job titles as his service progressed, most recently th a t of ambulance technician. He has been- a t many testing incidents, some well-publi
cised, others more private but still stressful for the ambulance person nel, as well as for th e people
involved.
■ But there have been happy times too - Mr Hornby's total of babies delivered over the years goes into
double figures. Another satisfying feature of his
work has been helping younger col
leagues. One who started in the job with
Mr Hornby was Mr Adrian Conboy, who has progressed up the ladder to the post of training officer for the Lancashire service.
He was among those who paid tr ibute to the veteran's work and
S6rvic6* Mi- Hornby thanked everyone
th e i r good wishes and gifts, emphasised how satisfying his job had been over the years - it had been a pleasure to work with his col leagues. He had felt just as keen to do as good a job as he could right up to his retirement-as he had been when he started. Mr and Mrs Hornby are pictured with Mr Conboy, centre right, and
other colleagues. (B161002/8)
