A WOMAN had a lucky escape when a car she was driving overturned and ended on its roof. The white Ford Fiesta was driven

by Janet Ashton (49), of Sabden Brook Court, Sabden, who was shak en, but did not go to hospital. The accident happened at Black

Hill, near Sabden, shortly; after 8 a.m.

on Tuesday. Sgt Russ Gregory, of the road traf

fic policing unit, said the road was closed while the vehicle was removed. He said the car had apparently hit a

stone and no ether vehicle was involved.

Low number of unfilled places at local schools

THE number of unfilled primary school places in the Ribble Valley is less than 5%. Statistics revealed in a number of unfilled

report to a Lancashire County Council commit tee report that the Val ley, together with Hynd- bum, .has only a total of 598 unfilled places com pared to 2,579 in West Lancashire and 1,039 in Burnley. The report to mem

bers of the Education and Lifelong Learning Overview and Scrutiny Committee shows that the number of unfilled places as a percentage of the capacity is just 4.88 in the Ribble Valley/Hyndburn com pared to almost a quar ter in West Lancashire. In a bid to look at ways of reducing the

places in primary schools, the county council intends to estab lish a rolling programme of reviews based on the data. Burnley has already been subjected to a review and Preston and Skelmersdale have now been selected, fol lowed by West Lan cashire and Chorley. A spokesman for Lan
