MORE Young Enterprise contest suc cess has been earned by a Clitheroe., school.

i The in te r im cup awarded by the

young business competition board has gone to Ribblesdale Technology High School's Chameleon company. ' The school has won a host of prizes in

recent years. "Competition was tough this year, with presentations from all e*ight companies exceeding the judges' expectations," said a spokesman for the

board. "The success of the competition depends on support from local business and volunteers from various sectors." . The interim award cup was handed

over by board vice-chairman Mr Trevor Roberts.

,

Also on the table was the best busi ness plan shield, and this was presented ,

to St Christopher's CE High School,, Accrington, by vice-chairman Mrs Aileen Evans. . Both winning companies make clocks.

Now th e teams from th e vario u s

schools are busy analysing lessons learnt a t the interim awards night, pushing their businesses along as fast as possible and preparing for the final contest night on April 17th. . Numerous prizes are on offer, and a place iii the regional final awaits the main winners. Our picture shows Michael Houghton

THE under-13 six-a-side soccer squad from Bowland High School had a good run in an Adidas Girls' Community Cup contest run by Burnley FC. ' The girls reached the last stage, not only without losing a game but without conceding agoal. Hopes of reaching the area final at Old Trafford were dashed only right at the end of

the finals on the indoor courts at Turf Moor, Burnley. St Christopher's CE School, Accrington,

were narrow winners. ■ But everyone a t Bowland is still well

pleased with the performance. The other schools in the competition were up to almost three times the size of the Grindleton one. The squad had already taken part in

Blackburn FC's Adidas competition. Two members, Sara Forrest and Joanne Green, are still considerably under the age limit for the year group, and so will be able to play next year. The other girls were Catherine Bolton

(captain), Beth Perkins, Sarah Patchett, Joanna Wellbank, Helen Greenhough and Saarh Coar. (T010302/1)

Mayor sets record

straight on memorial THE Mayor of Clitheroe this week declared that she wanted to set the record straight with regard to recent com ments regarding the resit ing of the war memorial. Describing events lead

ing up to the matter being raised in the town council chamber, Coun. - Mrs Mary Robinson said that she had been approached by two senior citizens, who had suggested that the memorial would be easier to access if moved elsewhore.in the Castle grounds. At the end of a town

council debate on the plans for the . Castle grounds, she mentioned the suggestion and asked other councillors what- their views were. "We

never had a vote on the matter, nothing was pro posed," she emphasised. "Coun. John McGowan

said there could be a big problem with vandalism and I agreed with him. Another councillor said that any bid to move the war memorial would have to be discussed with the relevant authority - and that was all that was dis cussed. "Coun. Mrs Robinson said that she had since received views from four members of the public, two for moving it and two against. "At the end of the day,

' th a t took place was an exchange of views.”
