Talk by an expert on bird life

AN expert on the bird and plant life along the Anglesey to Walney coastline has lectured to Clit-

heroe Naturalists. Mr Charles Owen, a

lan d ra n g e r ba sed in Wigan, accompanied his ta lk w ith m an y colourful slides. His presentation, held

at the library, was based on his many years of studying the natural his tory of this important North-West coastline. From pictures of the

Menai Bridge and South Stack Lighthouse, he moved from cliffs inhab ited by hundreds of seabirds,

guillemots, razorbills, shag and kittiwakes, through inland bays where widgeon, grey heron and merganser spend the winter, to mudflats covered in red shank and oystercatcher. The many wildflower

including O

species, from sea pink and scabious to evening primrose and marsh hellebore were covered, and many other plants and their habitat described, ranging from seakale to fungi. Mr Owen not only
