Moor A look destined to lift the Clitheroe and Dis trict Snooker League First Division title after a con vincing 10-4 victory over
break of 60 to put N. Harris (Billington A) and P. Clark’s (Chatburn A) breaks of 36 in the shade. The Second Division’s high est break was recorded by P.
Chatburn A. The First Division lead
ers now require only 11 more points to be crowned
champions. Runners-up spot is not as
clear-cut but it is a two- horse race between Whalley Conservative Club and Waddington A - they are level pegging on the same number of points but Waddington have a game in
hand. Clitheroe Conservative
Club B look likely to replace their relegation- threatened A team in the
First Division. They remain 16 points
clear at the top of the Sec ond Division after a 10-4 win over Waddington B.
Slaidburn could snatch run ners-up spot from one of the Rimington teams if they can record three good wins.

when substitute Mark Sul livan beat the keeper from the edge of the box. Clough led by example in
a much better second-half performance.

Valuable points for Roefield
R
O E F IE L D B a d minton Club A picked up 10 valuable points in
their relegation battle against Pleckgate. Despite losing 9-7, the
points could prove crucial as they strive to stay in the top flight.
The lower half pairings of .
Martin Meadows and Ann Taylor, and Paul Ainger and Louise Burrill were unbeaten during the match, while the top half pairings struggled against tough opposition. Stephen Pym and Karen Famhill were unlucky to lose
one game 15-14. This left the score all
square at the halfway stage. The ladies won a game
apiece, the pairings being Taylor and Sheila Hartley,
and Famhill and Burrill. The men only picked up
one game, Meadows and Ainger successful, leaving Roefield beaten 9-7. Roefield now meet relega
tion rivals YMCA B, with a win by at least three points required to keep alive their survival hopes.
Darters’
narrow victory
I
N the Lancashire Men’s Darts Super League, Clitheroe entertained their
near neighbours Padiham at the Social Club and emerged 6-4 winners. The match began badly for
the home side with Reece Jef fries and Mick Duxbuiy both
losing. Ray Hargreaves and man
of the match Dominick Doyle reversed the trend when they won 3-1 and 3-0 respectively, the latter check ing on 137 during his victory. James Hargreaves was
beaten, though, despite hav ing an healthy average of 70.59 but, once again, Joe Marsden did not let Clitheroe down winning 3-1 to draw the
sides level. Peter Taylor triumphed
thanks to an identical score- line but Lancashire Under 18 player Gareth Cunliffe found his opponent too hot too han ■
die. At 4-4 the match was fine
ly poised, but skipper Barry Cunliffe battled to a 3-2 win, including a 111 check-out. It was left to Andy Porter to seal victory with another nail- biting 3-2 success.
