their heels at Chadderton as Maine Road took the lead within 15 min utes, and were 2-0 up on the half-

hour. The usual rock-steady centre

back partnership of Matt Anderton and Ben Kearton took time to set tle, but as they did, the Blues pulled a goal back through Mark

Wilson. Neil Ollerton and striker partner

Jon Riley began to cause problems and were rewarded when Ollerton levelled before the break. The Mancunians opened the sec

ond half brighter and regained the lead just before the hour.

This seemed to inspire Clitheroe, n 4-^ tr^c*r\ii

control. The equaliser came 10 minutes

cheque to the Clitheroe Health Centre Heart Machine Appeal. This was received Dr Barry

Smith and Dr Ron Higson, who demonstrated how a mobile ecg machine works prior to going into public use

on Tuesday. This money was raised at

the club's Corporate Week end, which was blessed with good weather and attracted 240 competitors to the nine-

hole course. British Aerospace fielded

two teams in the event and made a £500 donation, as well offering a special raffle prize which raised another £500. The prize, which was won

by Steve Alcock of the Shire- burn Arms at Hurst Green, involved a return flight from Warton to London, a visit to the House of Commons for

Prime M inister's Question Time, a visit to the House of Lords and an overnight stay in the capital. Mr Wilkinson also handed

ocal schoolgirl, Hayley Driver, is celebrating her call-up to Lan cashire girls Under 15s cricket

team after impressing in a recent trial. The 12-year-old has been a regular member

of Clitheroe boys Under 13s side and was selected to play for Lancashire out of 25 other

trialists. The trial took place at St Edward’s School,

Liverpool where Hayley had to show her skills in a practice session and then in a full match. The Ribblesdale High School pupil first

became interested in playing cricket after being introduced to the game by her father, Keith - a former Clitheroc Cricket Club play

er. Hayley is the first-ever girl to play for

Clitheroe in its 144 year history and her strong bowling action has seen her become a potent wicket-taker in the boys' team. Last season she was a part of the team that won the cup and is hoping to gain further suc

cess with Lancashire. Her first game for Lancashire is against

Lincolnshire and she hopes this will be the first step to achieving her ambition of playing for her country.

Tour campaign. The 25-year-old Dwyer,

who is attached to ClitheroeCC, handed in the lowest 72-hole score of his professional career as he fin ished joint eighth at Aston Wood Golf Club, Sutton Coldfield. Dwyer is coached once a month by Harrogate-based

Bill Ferguson, the man who developed Colin Mont gomerie into one of the world's leading players and currently casts his expert eye over Ian Woosnam and Paul Broadhurst, among others. Dwyer served notice of his

intentions with a three-under- par 68 on the opening day, and followed with a level-par 71 on the second day. But in the final 36 holes on

Friday he turned on the style and shot two rounds of 67 - a splendid achievement equalled by only one more competitor - and his 11- under-par 273 aggregate was just five strokes adrift of the winner. On Monday Dvyyer record

ed a top-10 finish in the latest MTM Tour event at Shrigley Hall, near Macclesfield. Dwyer was four-under-par

at the turn but faltered on the back nine and, after calling a penalty on himself, finished with a one-over-par 72. He is currently in action in

a 36-hole Futures Tour event in Milton Keynes, and next week Dwyer will be hoping to give a good account of himself in the Players' Tour Champi onship at Chartham Park Golf Club, West Sussex. S Clitheroe members Gary Speak and Peter Harrison will represent the club in the regional final of the Toyota event. The Whalley Road club's

qualifier was held on Satur day and was sponsored by
