Burgess leaves second string C
LITHEROE are on the lookout for a reserve team manager after Dave Burgess announced his
personal reasons. Burgess, who is close to the end of his
third season in charge in his second spell, will hand over the reins at the end of the season, or before should a suitable replace ment be found. But he will not be leaving altogether and discussions are underway to find him
a new role at the club. Chairman Steve Rush said: “I would
like to thank Dave for all his hard work - he really has done a superb job. “The side won the East Lancashire League President’s Cup before moving up
into the North-West Counties’ Reserve Division. “I t was a big step up but they did
superbly to finish runners up in both league and cup, and it’s not out of the question for them to finish runners-up this year. "He will be a hard man to replace, but
I’m glad he has decided to remain at the club because he still has a lot to offer." Clitheroe co-boss Denis Underwood added: “I’ll be sorry to see him go because
he has done a great job. “In many ways he’s had a tougher job
than me - I’ve been known to ring him up on a Friday night and take a couple of players out of his team and then he has to find another couple of players. “But he’s going to carry on at the club and I’m sure his input will be valuable."

Hurst Green 6 Colne 0_______________
THE weather wiped out the E a s t Lancashire League programme at the weekend, but the previous Saturday a h a t- tr ick from Hurst Green's Mar tin Aspinall helped put
paid to Colne. The locals, playing up
the slope in the first half, took the lead after 15 min utes when Aspinall's persis tence paid off and he scored
from close range. The lead was increased
in the 37th minute when Warren Baker slid in an excellent goal from the edge
of the area. In the second half, Colne
had difficulty getting the
ball out of their own half and inevitably the Green made it 3-0 through
Aspinall. A cracking 30-yarder from
John Dowthwaite put the locals further ahead, before Ian Barton added a fifth. Aspinall completed his

the game.Dan Wilkinson's cross
