Civic leaders go on tour to promote the Ribble Valley
TOURISM representatives from the Ribble Valley have been working hard at promoting the area in con junction with a number of partners in the industry. Ribble Valley Mayor
Coun. Jenny Grimes and her consort, Dr David Grimes, took time out of their busy schedules to visit the recent holiday show, held in Glasgow, to help promote the region. The organisers were so impressed with her pres ence that she was formally invited to attend a recep tion and dinner during her visit. The annual attendance
at the North West Tourist Board's "Great Days Out Fair" also proved as attrac tive as ever, with excellent numbers of group organis ers showing interest in the area as a day trip and overnight destination. This exhibition, held at
the International Commu nity Centre, Wigan, is aimed at all organisers who are seeking inspiration for new and exciting ideas to entertain groups, and they were provided with infor mation and details of walks and accommodation in the Ribble Valley. Elsewhere, the last of a
champion stock car racer John Lund attended the annual event held in his honour, but the s ta r of
the evening had to make a more important pit stop at the maternity ward. For Mr Lund had to
leave halfway through the evening to enable him to be present at the birth of his twin daughters. Mrs Shirley Billows, who
follows Mr Lund to his events with her family and who organised the event, joked: "I organise the event each year, but unfortunate ly his wife, Annette, spoilt this year's by going into labour 1" The annual dinner,
series of Northern Euro pean exhibitions will take place on Saturday and Sunday in the Hague, Hol land. The Forest of Bow- land initiative will be actively promoted as part of the ongoing England's North Country campaign, which is funded from money received from the 5b Objective. The main domestic
which is held so that Mr Lund can meet and get to know his supporters, took place at the Moorcock Inn, Waddington. Instead of letting everyone down, he attended the event to meet the 120 guests who had turned out lor a few hours, before speeding off to be with his wife. Mr Lund has won sever
of Mr Lund's supporters at the event. (280298/20/7)
