IBBLESDALE Wanderers had almost become a one-
son, but the signs are promising as the amateurs began to find some
form at the weekend. Martin Briggs was the hero of the
day on Saturday against Edenfield as he crashed a spectacular ton. The visitors batted first and
looked to be heading for a big score as openers Kershaw and Franklin put on 70 with Wanderers’ professional Shahid Nawaz and Ainsworth strug gling to make the breakthrough. The latter produced his best spell

ting a long-hop to McCrae at mid wicket, and Wanderers were in des perate need of someone who could take on the bowling. They found someone in the shape

derers seconds also had a seven-point haul against Edenfield. Davies and B. Spencer
put on 147 for the fourth wicket as they helped Wan derers rack up 198-6. Davies was finally out
10 runs short of his centu ry, while Spencer made 72. In reply, Edenfield were
all out for 179, with Pye finishing unbeaten on 93. Among the wickets were
Ian Britcliffe (2-61), Pearce (2-28), B. Spencer (3-58) and Leach (2-19). In the Second Division,
Whalley seconds were beaten by four wickets by Burnley Grammar School
Old Boys. The Station Road side
made 144-7, but the Old Boys passed the target with six wickets down. Unfortunately, on Sun
day, Whalley c o u ld n 't make cup progress as they lost out on the chance of a Vaux Lawrenson Cup quarter-final slot with a seven-run defeat against Great Harwood. Harwood made 111, but the locals fell agonisingly
short in reply. In the Third Division, Ribblesdale Wanderers
thirds had a mammoth 187- run win over Baxenden. Taking first knock,
Wanderers made 295-3, with Dewhurst (65), Adams (88 not out) and Marsh (74) in fine form with the bat. And Baxenden were

Weakened Chatburn miss out - but seconds score good win

WEAKENED Chatburn first team lost their
weekend game against Keighley Technical Col lege, but Jonathan Lock- ley was the second team's match-winner. Chatburn first team won
who were all out for 111. Pick of the bowlers were
Shovelton 6 not out. Chatburn 2nds 189: P.
all-rounder Lockley took 4- 48, and Steve Almond 2-4. Keighley Technical Col
lege 182-9: R. Shovelton 23- 4-84-5; D. Glover 8-4-20-2;
the toss and put Keighley in to bat.And Keighley made 182-
9 in their 45 overs, although R. Shovelton bowled well,
taking 5-84. But he didn't have much luck with a number of
dropped catches. • In reply, Shovelton (51)
and John Woodham (21) were the only batsmen to make double figures in a
poor display. Chatbum were all out for
100, and Keighley had their first win from sue games. The seconds also faced
Keighley, and Lockley helped them return to win
ning ways. Chatburn batted first
and after losing two quick wickets, Peter Clough (56) and Lockley (69) put on over 100 to put the locals in
an excellent position, John Trotter (34) contin
ued the dominance, but unfortunately the lower order batsmen didn't con
tribute. Nevertheless, Chatburn
finished on 189, which was far too much for Keighley,
