b a t and, winning the toss, Whalley decided to put Clitheroe in, expecting the wicket to favour the bowlers.
This proved to be a misguided deci sion as the Clitheroe batsmen got their
side off to a good start. Professional Jonathan Fielding and
captain Phil Bishop produced a stand of 52 for the first wicket, with both players making 25 before departing. David O’Neill took the wicket of
Fielding thaks to a catch from Russell Foster, then Whalley professional Jason Smith claimed the first of his six
wickets to see off Bishop. Neil Bolton had made just four when he was bowled by Smith and Andrew
Bums followed soon after for 25. Neil Bolton and Steven Whalley took
the score past the 100 mark before both fell to Smith and the Whalley professional continued his good form by taking the wicket of Mark Bolton __his sixth and final victim— before
