A quiet fifth birthday for plucky Zoe

Mart protest, then Carol goes home with a lamb!
AN animal rights protester who led a demon stration at Gisburn Auction Mart on Satur day ended up being given a lamb to
hand-rear. Carol Duggan, of Compassion in World Farming,
came to the fortnightly sale of store stock with a party of supporters from all over the North-West.
She said she had talked to a farmer’s wife for some
time after the group had made their protest at the auction ring. The woman had said how tired she was after days and nights of hand-rearing weak lambs.

manager Mr Dick Boarder emphasises the number of experts questioning, the
report. He says: “To our know
ledge, there have been no proven links between cement manufacture and ill-health in the 100-year history of the UK cement industry. In any league of industrial polluters, the cement industry is very
low on the list.” Residents Against Toxic
Substances say that there is very serious concern about the emissions from two of Castle Cement’s kilns. While welcoming the interest of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Com munity Committee, RATS says that plume-grounding continues. “We believe that the health and well being of the local popula tion should come before any other consideration,” declares the group’s latest statement.
