IN the middle of the last century, an alehouse was added to a farmstead high up on Waddington Fell. I t offered the farming communi­ ty a well-needed

tions sees a room, contain­ ing a new 18-foot bar and new ladies’ and gents’ cloakrooms, added to the ballroom, with four new en-suite bedrooms built


above. The ballroom is now a self-contained unit


able to house parties of guests, who need not leave the palatial function room to order drinks from the public bar, as once


was the case. Mrs Susan Fillary, who owns the Moorcock with her husband, Peter, said that this is just what cus­ tomers had been asking


for. She said: “The ball­ room has not had a bar in the past and our cus­ tomers, holding wedding receptions, banquets or


any sort of meeting, have
