A REAL HOOT AS FESTIVE VISITOR DROPS IN AT PUB

A STRAY owl caused a festive hoot when he came down the chimney in a top Ribble Valley hostelry.

- . -

when he refused to budge from a shelf containing precious antiques in the dining room of their Black Bull pub in Rimington.

The tenacious tawny put publicans Michael and Barbara Blades in a tlap ,

apparently unharmed, but when it saw the startled owners it started flapping its wings and nearly put flight to an antique or two.

Mr and Mrs Blades came downstairs to find the bird perched on the shelf, ,

* . , , ■ Mr Blades commented: “ We have had problems with a blocked chimney for

a couple of weeks and we think now that the owl had been nesting there and had fallen down.

“We asked the RSPCA

to come and rescue it, but the main thing was to keep it calm so that it didn’t do any more damage.”

However, the spirited

bird got wind of something fishy when Mr Blades and one of his regulars armed' with a large fishing net began their own rescue operation, and made a b e e l in e fo r an open window.

Mr and Mrs Blades use

the dining room at the pub to display their collection

o f w i ld l i fe plates and paintings.

Much of their artwork

was collected in Canada where they lived for 27 years before returning to the Ribble Valley and buy ing the Black Bull.
