local fielder in the top 20. He collected 11 catches. The departure of John Wharton, who had won
the fiedling prize for five of the previous six years, did not seem to bother whalley, but Kiobbiesdale’s vice-captain Martin Briggs took full advantage. Another young local prospect, Briggs, who
gained four fielding points from umpires over the summer, finished a full point ahead of his nearest rival Chris Wear, of Earby. His accurate arm, awareness and presence in
the field has been a real plus to the Church Meadow side and the award is richly deserved. The batting prize was the only league award to
go out of the Kibble Valley, with Larby opener Ian Clarkson, averaging 39.63, coming out half a run higher than Ian Scothern (Barnoldswick) who so nearly overtook him with his final innings of the season at Clitheroe. Chris Seed (Clitheroe) was the highest local
