F A C IN G Earby at Church Meadow, Ribblesdale Wanderers claimed five relatively easy points from this Whitbread Ribblesdale League third division match.
The away side batted
first and made a mixed start ]>utling on 27 for the first wicket before Winder was dismissed. Fellow opener Pickles
soon followed, caught by Rawsthorne, off the bowl ing of Byrne. Hartley came and went without troubling the scor ers and at 29 for 3, the side looked in real trouble and in need of a big score.
Davenport stuck around
for a timely 24, but further disappointing displays from Walton (10), Jackman (4), Pepper (0) and Watson (0), left Earby in real trou ble at 77 for 8.
Luckily for them, Bays-
ton (18 n.o.) and Jaggers (26 n.o.) were in a fighting mood and gave their side a slim chance with a fine stand, which took the side onto 123 for 8 at the close. For Ribblesdale, the
whole attack played well, with Byrne, Overy and Blair taking two wickets each, Burke a single suc cess and Rawsthorne fin ishing with two overs for the loss of 13 runs.
In reply, Ribblesdale
started superbly, and although the momentum faltered in the latter stages, the side were never in danger of losing and reached the required total with 4.1 overs to spare.
Openers Monk (28) and
Kenyon (31) (nit on 49 for the first wicket and once Monk had gone, Schofield continued the good work with a steady 24. At 72 for 2, things still looked on course, but at this point the wickets began to fall at a more regular pace. Rawsthorne hit 7 before
being caught and knocks of 4, from Kenyon and 7 from
Overy, only edged the score upwards. The side eventually
(lulled through thanks to the (latience of captain Hutchins, who stuek around for an unbeaten 13 and Blair (10 n.o.). The side eventually reached their target for the loss of 6 wickets. Earby battled away
with the ball and all three bowlers claimed wickets, with Maddon taking 3 for 22 off 7.3 overs. Earby: 123 for 8. Bowling: T. Byrne 1S-8-

E Q U E S TR IA N supremo Joanna Jackson won a top dressage competition at the weekend to leave her in top form for this weekend’s inter
national meeting in Holland. Jackson, of The Iloyds, Chatburn, travelled to Good-
wood for the Festival of Stars competition, which is open to young riders aged between 21 and 30 years. There was a bumper turnout for the event which
was split over two (lays and attracted a quality field from all over the country. Jackson, riding her 10-year old brown gelding Mes-
ter Mouse, was in top form and won the first day by some 50 marks. * Because of the large entry the first day was divided into two sections with five riders from each qualifying
for day two. On the Sunday Jackson was again in tip top form
and won by an even bigger margin of some 60 marks. For taking the title Jackson won a new saddle and a £750 training scholarship. This fine display leaves Jackson in a confident mood
for the weekend action when she competes for Great Britain in the Nunspeat International competition, in Holland. Jackson qualified for the national team with a series
of outstanding displays on Mester Mouse and was told of her selection after winning an international competition at Goodwood in May. Each team is made up of four riders and with teams
from all over Europe taking part, the standard of competition will be extremely liigh. As an extra bonus, Jackson nas also been made a
reserve member of the national squad for the Rotter dam meeting to be held in August.

MOTOR sport star John Lund enjoyed a hectic weekend o f competition, racing in three rounds o f the current Stock Car National Points Championship and the annual Super Bowl
race. The busy weekend started with a trip to Long
Eaton’s shale track. The opening race was the Super Bowl for the top 20 points scorers. The race had been scheduled for New Year’s Day,
but was cancelled. Battling it out over 20 laps, Lund, from Riming
ton. started on the second row, but soon muscled his way into first place. Once at the front, he refused to hold back and led to the finish to take his second Super
Bowl title. With no time to rest, Lund was in the thick of
action straight afterwards for the heat in the points championship. Struggling to find his earlier form, he could only manage fourth position. In the final he returned to winning ways to take a fine first place. However in the Grand National, the car developed a
mechanical problem and Lund was forced to retire. Despite failing to finish the last race, he was pleased with his final haul of 33 points. On Sunday he was in action on the tarmac at Skeg
ness and after taking fourth place in the heat, won the final and claimed seventh position in the Grand National, bringing in a further 49 points. The busy schedule came to a close at Boston's shale
track. With each car set up for either shale or tar mac and with Lund’s shale vehicle off the road, the Rimington farmer was forced to use his car, specialised for use on tarmac. This certainly proved to be a disadvantage and Lund could onlv claim fifth position in the heat, eighth in the final and sixth in the Grand National, securing
23 championship points. This still leaves Lund way ahead in the cham
pionship. but the worry is that he will not be able to have the damaged car ready for this weekend’s trips to
Crewe and Northampton. “ If I can't mend the car in time I might miss the
