scheduled to last seven days, hut terminated after the first day due to the actions of council officers. A high court injunction

was sought when the organisers failed to give an

undertaking that the event would not restart. The matter was taken to

the high court in June and as the staging hud by then been removed, the council did not seek an extension of the injunction. The defendants, said the coun cil’s chief legal officer Mr P a u 1 T i m s o n , w e r e ordered to pay the costs of the action.

purpose-built specialist units are given the go- ahead by the planning authority and the sale of the site by the area health authority progresses with out too much delay, the new multi-purpose hospi tal, called the Kibchester and Longridge Commu nity Hospital and Nursing Home, could be up and running by June next year. Mr Ken Johnson, Black

burn Health Authority’s general community ser vices manager, said that it had an agreement with Takare pic — the new company — that the 40 staff employed at the pres ent Kibchester hospital will be given first option of interview on the proposed 70 full and part-time jobs, although he hinted that some staff may be made redundant. “We are currently work ing very hard with each

member of staff at Kib chester to get the best deal for them,” said Mr Johnson. The planned d e v e l

opment, which will lie built close to the present hospital, will contain two new 30-bed units. One will specialise in the care of the elderly mentally ill, with the initial intake of patients coming from the doomed W h i 11 i n g li am Hospital, near Preston. The second unit will pro

vide 15 community beds for patients supplied by local CPs, with the remaining 15 beds going to p r iv a te health care patients. Takare pie, which is one

of the largest nursing care organisations in tile coun try, intends to maintain the present hospital’s physiotherapy service unit, housing it in a new wing of the proposed development. The staff will continue

to be employed by the Blackburn, Hyndburn and Kibble Valley Health Authority. The new com pany also intends to con tinue the present meals- on-wheels and weekly lun cheon club services.
