They heard about the trust’s work in setting up

The money will go towards the upkeep of a coastal nature reserve and a plaque will be placed along the shoreline to mark their contribution, but the location, which will be as close to home at pos sible, has still to be named.

who had never tackled a wall repair job before, it was a daunting task. Some 10 yards of church wall had fallen down. Part of this was nearly 10 feet high and two feet thick.
Nearby, a further eight yards of school yard wall also needed repairing. But the small army of
parishioners was not with out its own resources, assembling II tonnes of sand and one-and-a-half tonnes of cement for the operation — plus countless hags of determination! “Gaffer” was Mr Bob

Watching birds
A CLITHEROE robin was one of the more unusual sightings in Lan cashire when the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ Young Ornitholo gists’ Club carried out survey. The robin had mastered
the technique of clinging to a nut bag like the blue tits, stated a young Clith eroe resident. More than S,000 chil
dren throughout the coun try spent an hour counting birds in the survey ran by the RSPB’s junior section. In Lancashire, starlings
were the commonest bird with an average of nearly 21 per garden, followed by house sparrows, with six per garden. Blue tits and blackbirds were third and fourth.
