A MAJOR competition encouraging children to become more aware of the environment in
Lancashire has been launched. E n ti t le d th e “Village T ra il C om p e tition ,” the
scheme is aimed a t ru ra l schools th ro u g h o u t th e county, including the Ribble Valley, and invites chil dren to devise a village inte re s t trail. Once a tra il has been decided, th e competitors
will th en have to produce a leaflet describing the points of in te re s t on a walk of not more than 4km. centred on th e ir village. The competiton, which makes up p a r t of the 1991
Best Kept Village Contest, has been organised by the Community Council of Lancashire, the National and Provincial Building Society and British Nuclear Fuels L td . With cash prizes and trophies on offer from BNFL, in te re s t is likely to be high for the village trail event. The closing date for the Best Kept Village Contest
