His slides showed the Lakes in th e ir many moods, from the nigged westerly coast line with birds nesting on ledges to the rivers and waterfalls with their pic turesque bridges. Cubs’ hat-trick Read Cub Scouts took
part in the Burnley Dis t r ic t six-a-side football competition at Barden Barn in an attempt to win the trophy for the third year running. Fourteen teams took
part and in the first round Read won two games and drew one to go forward to the quarter finals. In an e x c it in g game
with sudden-death penal ties, Read eventually won. The team qualified for the semi-final by beating St Cuthbert’s in a 1-0 penalty win. The final was against St
Stephen’s and Read Cubs gave a slick performance to win 5-0. Roger Hayth- ornthwaite and Duncan Bennett finished joint to)) goalscorers in the compe tition, with six each. The remaining squad consisted o f Duncan and Bevan Scarborough, Matthew Ward, Peter Dalby, John Chesworth and Chris Ben nett.

interlude when all the chil dren were invited to go forward to receive posies from the Bishop and other clergymen. The posies, arranged by MU members and friends, were blessed by the Bishop and the s ce n t o f th e f lo w e rs attracted butterflies wak ing from hibernation in church to flutter round as the posies were presented! The Bishop gave an
inspiring address on the th em e , “ C h o se n by Christ.” Organist was Mrs
Diane Rice. After the final blessing
by the Bishop, the choir led the congregation out of doors fo r the a n cie n t Mothering Sunday cere mony o f “ c lip p in g the church,” which involved the people forming a huge c irc le r ig h t round the church. Meanwhile, Mr Richard Lloyd had taken up a posi
tion on top of the tower and when he was satisfied that the circle was com plete, he blew a hearty fanfare on his horn. Then the people raised a mighty cheer, joining hands sym bolically to “clip” or “hug” Mother Church. To put the final seal on a

members of Chipping YFC met in the community centre for an entertaining ta lk on hang-gliding by Andrew Berry. He demonstrated the
