IN a game of contrasting halves, the home side, although not scoring, put


up a very good display. The first 20 minutes saw the


visitors scoring four tries, but they were then held by good defensive work. As the game progressed, Clitheroe got their act together and started to show how good they could become. At half-time, the score stood at 18-0. The pack then started to


dominate their opponents in the scrum but failed in the line-outs. The outcome was a very enter­ taining second half. The back row of Woodburn, Drakeford and Rowstron tackled well and stopped their opponents from attacking. match of eight minutes each­ way, Clitheroe were disap­ pointed with their 2-0 defeat. They then expected an hour’s


break before their next game, but due to a team in their sec­ tion dropping out, Clitheroe were back on the tu r f quarter- of-an-hour later. They began to play much


better for Clitheroe and, from some nire possession, a clever up-and-under put pressure on the full-back, who fumbled the catch. Centre Dave Doig was on hand to secure the touchdown and O’Duffy converted to put the Littlemoor men back in the hunt. But it wits not really going to


happen, with the forwards find­ ing themselves unable to pro­ duce the clean possession for the backs. The line-outs were fairly .. shambolic, but more unusually, so were the scrums. came third and this was enough to get them through to the


quarter-finals. This match was against BTR and both teams were beginning


to tire, with the full-time score blank. In the five minutes of ex­ tra-time, BTR began to leave a forward deep in Clitheroe’s half, hoping for the chance of a loose ball.
