HERE are three ventures under one roof at Mitton Hall — Old Stone House Eating Establishment, Owd Ned’s Tavern and Mitton Hall Lodgings. The 140-seat Old Stone House is a now a firm

favourite for diners from near and far. The food is freshly cooked in its own pizzeria and kitchen, with English, Italian, and French dishes, plus wines from around the world, always available. The restaurant is open seven days a week and the

atmosphere is informal. Children are welcome and have their own special menu. The management does not take advanced bookings except for parties of 10 and

GLASSES were raised on Monday to

toast the 10th anniversary of the opening of the popular Old Stone' House Eating Establishment at

Mitton Hall. The restaurant is

housed in the ancient part of the building which stands in its own wooded grounds in the beautiful Mitton countryside two miles

from Whalley. And without doubt the

anniversary celebrations were fit for a Ling. . . in more ways than one. For the Old Stone

House staff genuinely believe that the “customer is always king,” and the hall itself has a link with royalty, too. The oldest part of the

one of our strong points, and we put on an exten sive range of dishes at good value for money,” said managing director Pam Long. “We like catering for

family groups, so if granddad doesn’t like Italian or French dishes and the rest of the family does then he is

also catered for.” Pam and her assistant, Trudy Birtwell, also pride

themselves on customer care and making visitors feel at home. “There are no uniforms or badges here," said Trudy. “Customers tell us they like our informal atmosphere and that is, undoubtedly, one of our main

attractions.” The historic atmosphere is also a great attraction

and customers show a lot of interest in the original features of the main hall where part of the restau rant is accommodated. A room adjoining the main hall and an upstairs room also form part of the eat ing establishment. The restaurant is open between 7 p.m. and 10-30

continuously. Owd Ned’s Tavern adjoining the restaurant is open

all day every day, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., for the best of home-made country inn fare. The menu is designed to suit all palates and tastes, both large and small. There is also a great selection of traditional cask ales, guest beers and lagers to choose from. The department is under the careful and skilful scrutiny of bars man ager Paul Cryer, who has built up an excellent repu tation during his eight years in the job. “He likes to introduce new ales to the customers

as well as stocking the traditional ones and this is one of the services most appreciated by our cus

tomers,” said Pam. Meanwhile, Mitton Lodgings — there are 14 double

bedrooms — offer one of the best deals anywhere. The lodgings are run on the American style, payment being made for the room and not for the number of guests in

each room. There are bathrooms en-suite and every room also

has a colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities.

Helping to make the

celebrations a night to remember were popular singing duo High Jinks, from Great Harwood, and soul singer Humilton Brown.
