The annual knock-out cup
final competition was won by Trinity who beat Dominoes 24-
20. The final took more than an
hour. At the end of the first half Trinity had a seven-goal lead. In the third quarter, Dominoes fought back well to level the scores and went into the final quarter with every thing to play for. Michael Georgeson started cautiously against the bowling of David Parsons and Aidan Baker. Only nine runs had been scored by the eighth over when Rushton could be re strained no longer but failed to clear Parsons at extra cover
and was caught. Georgeson continued solidly
and together with Graham Bushell took the score into the seventies with the run rate hovering around two per over. After both had fallen to Par
sons it was left to Michael Ranson and Richard Goodway to step up the pace. This they were able to do very success fully thanks to the insistence, first of Neil Robbins and then Aidan Baker, on bowling down the leg side despite being de spatched regularly to, if . not over, the boundary. Baker conceded 46 runs in
two overs, undoing all the good work done by Parsons at the other end. Ranson was finally caught by
Mel Gillibrand, iust four runs short o f his- half-century, having hit four sixes. Goodway included three sixes in an un beaten 39, allowing Read to declare after 44 overs with a formidable 172. Northern struggled from the
outset against accurate bowling by Ricnard Kawalec ana Graham Bushell. Kawalec bowled Neil Rob
bins and then took a magnifi cent low slip catch to remove
Parsons. Kawalec clung firmly to his
next catch to dismiss Paul Largan, off his own bowling and when Bushell bowled John Halsall, Northern at 35 for 4 were well behind the clock. Peter Jones came in for a
