A family firm with its sights on the future

A DYNAMIC family firm which started in business in 1979 will shortly stage its first exhibition at its new premises in Accring ton Road.

Acorn Office Equip

ment Ltd, which moved to Systems Houses Ac crington Road, Burnley (Willie Holt’s old pre mises), will have an open day and Business Equipment Exhibition on April 20th and 21st.

Mr Edward Scott,

managing director, has gone a long way since the company began in Padiham. Turnover was up by 77% last year, a remarkable performance in the middle of a world recession.

when the firm got off the ground, it was based in Padiham with an office, a storeroom and a small workshop. There wasn’ t even enough room to display its pro ducts, so the company moved. In 1981 a showroom

MRS PAULINE SCOTT, operating a new Rank Xerox electronic typewriter. On the light Miss Deborah Sutcliffe works on an Olivetti ETS 1010 ivord processing machine ivatched by Blackburn area sales manager Mr Alex Pearson

grew these premises after a very short time and started to look for something with room for expansion. It was found in Rosegrove.

FAMOUS A lot of work has been

done on the large new buildings, but there is plenty of space to dis

play products, and the company plans to in

crease the range of goods. “We are,” said Mr

Scott,. “going into com puters, cash registers and a much wider range of office furniture. We shall be increasing our sales staff. Our product range includes famous

names like Olivetti and Adler and we are just about to be appointed local stockists for Rank Xerox, with five diffe rent models of electronic typewriters. At the ex hibition we will be show ing some new products which have never before been seen on general display.”

One of the items on

display will be an inex pensive “add-on” screen for an Olivetti electronic typewriter.

This, said Mr Scott,

would give the machines full word-processing capabilities. “In future,” he said,

“we hope to hold specific exhibitions and seminars

which we believe will be of great interest to busi ness people in the area.”

Acorn Office Equip

ment Ltd, is a service- orientated company, and Mr Scott was very em phatic about the sort of after-sales care which customers could expect from his company.

ACTIVE This is not just sales

patter, for any firm which prospers as Acorn Office Equipment Ltd has done, and forged ahead from one set of la rg e r p remise s to another in times like these, must be what they say they are, or they would not progress so quickly in such a short time.

Service is a vital point

with Mr Scott for, before he became man

aging director of the company, he was the service manager, so he. knows what follow-up to sales means, and carries out after-sales services meticulously. Mr Scott belongs to

branches on all sides. The exhibition will tell

its own story to local business people, most of whom are aware of the changing face of office equipment, be it elec

tronic machines or the right sort of furniture for the job. It will all be there at

the display next week, with prices and equip ment to suit all kinds of business offices, large or small, so go along and see how the little acorn has grown into a stately oak, with its roots firmly settled in the ground of North-East Lancashire.
