a free kick but this served only to gee up Rimington who equalised four minutes later when Bicknell waltzed round the ‘keeper to slot the ball home. Bicknell was brought down
in the penalty area five minutes from half-time and Horsfield made no mistake to put Rimington in front. Bicknell played a part in

Shaun leads the field
AFTER finishing second in his two previous fell races this’ season, both to Jan Broxap, of Keswick, Shaun Livesey led the field home on Sunday in the Kentmere Fell Race. The race was run in severe conditions and over one-third of the field retired at the first control. However, when the leading bunch reached the mist it was Shaun and Jan who pulled clear to finish joint first, over nine minutes ahead of the next man. This was Shaun’s first major
fell running victory and the first of the British Fell Run ning Championship races.
Swimmers fine show at Preston
C L ITH ERO E and District ASC had their first champion of the season on Saturday at Saul Street, Preston, when Steven Nicholas won the 15 years boys 100 yards butterfly North Lancashire age group Championship in a time of 1
minutes 04.17 seconds. Besides Steven the club con
tinued its successful participa tion in the championships when the eight swimmers taking part reached the finals in a further six events. Ian Husband in the 14 years
boys 400 yards freestyle was seond in 4 minutes-36.26 sec onds, • and third in the 200 yards backstroke in 2 minutes 31.03 seconds. Joanne Robinson was third in
the 12 year girls 100 yards butterfly in 1-13.57; Nicky Glover fourth in 12 year boys 100 yards freestyle; Peter Jones fourth in 13 year boys 100 yards backstroke and Jozef Magee sixth in 12 year boys 100 yards freestyle. These continuing excellent
results for Clitheroe swimmers auger well for the club’s new league season which began on April 12th with an • away gala against Blackpool SC.
