A former president of town’s golf club


A FORMER president of Clitheroe Golf Club, Mr Alexander Drew, died suddenly at home last Wednesday, aged 68. Mr Drew, of Glebe


House, Waddington, had lived in the village for 30 years with his wife,


Elizabeth. He was born in


Padiham, w h ere his family owned the Lower House Print Mill, and worked in the Manchester offices of the firm for some years before the


war. He spent a number of


years serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Scots Guards in the Middle East, where he was badly wounded. During his time in the


Middle East, he met his wife. On returning to this area, they manned and Mr Drew went back to the family business. When this came to an end, he bought the Besg-


los Polish Company, along with two partners, and continued in this until


his death. Mr Drew was a keen


golfer, and was president of the Clitheroe club in 1980-81. His other main hobby was gardening. He is survived by his wife and three sons,

in St Helen’s Parish Church on. Monday, fol­ lowed by cremation at Ac­ crington.
