A former president of town’s golf club
A FORMER president of Clitheroe Golf Club, Mr Alexander Drew, died suddenly at home last Wednesday, aged 68. Mr Drew, of Glebe
House, Waddington, had lived in the village for 30 years with his wife,
Elizabeth. He was born in
Padiham, w h ere his family owned the Lower House Print Mill, and worked in the Manchester offices of the firm for some years before the
war. He spent a number of
years serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Scots Guards in the Middle East, where he was badly wounded. During his time in the
Middle East, he met his wife. On returning to this area, they manned and Mr Drew went back to the family business. When this came to an end, he bought the Besg-
los Polish Company, along with two partners, and continued in this until
his death. Mr Drew was a keen
golfer, and was president of the Clitheroe club in 1980-81. His other main hobby was gardening. He is survived by his wife and three sons,
I Simon, Nicholas and i Jonathan. The funeral took place

trap for litter, an unwel come attraction for chil dren attending nearby R ib b ie sd a le N u r se ry School and a home for vermin. The decision to clean up
the area was taken by members of the Ribble Valley Public Works and Health Committee who also decided that the re claimed ground should be offered to the owners of the adjacent gardens. Coun.. Eric Bracewell
